Zulily Selects the Columbus Region for New Fulfillment Center

Online retailer to add several hundred jobs to the Columbus Region over the next five years

February 15, 2012

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus 2020, the Columbus Region’s economic development entity, today announced that Zulily, a leading daily deal website focused on products for moms, babies and kids, has opened a new fulfillment center in Obetz. The company plans to add several hundred jobs to the Columbus Region over the next five years.

One of the fastest growing companies in the U.S., Zulily today hosted a grand opening ceremony at its new facility at 3051 Creekside Parkway in Obetz. Officials from Zulily, Columbus 2020 and JobsOhio, as well as local dignitaries including Governor Kasich, were in attendance.

The company selected the Columbus Region for its fulfillment center after a careful evaluation of other Midwest and Mid-Atlantic markets. In the end, Zulily’s decision came down to its ability to quickly fulfill orders from the Obetz location and the speed at which JobsOhio and the Columbus 2020 economic development teams worked to address the company’s needs and issues.

“The state, county and local businesses have all been incredibly helpful and have made it possible for Zulily to pursue our aggressive growth plans and to have a smooth transition process into the region,” said Darrell Cavens, CEO of Zulily. “We look forward to the opening of this new facility in Obetz.”

The depth of the Columbus Region’s assets for a fulfillment operation, including ease of access to customers, cost and quality of labor, favorable tax climate, and logistics infrastructure attracted Zulily to the Columbus Region.

“The logistics industry is a critical component of our economy,” said Kenny McDonald, chief economic officer of Columbus 2020. “Columbus 2020 is pleased to welcome Zulily to the Columbus Region. We look forward to working collaboratively with our state and local partners to continue to ensure that the company’s needs at the Obetz operation are met.”

Headquartered in Seattle, Wash., Zulily is an online store that offers daily sales events on apparel and other products for mothers and children at up to 90 percent off retail prices. Since its founding in 2009, the company has enjoyed significant growth, and began shipping orders from Obetz in late January.

Columbus 2020 is the Columbus Region’s economic development strategy that leads business attraction, retention, expansion and creation in the 11-county region.
