The Right Chemistry

October 28, 2013

Most economic development groups tout a select group of target industries or economic sectors. The science and technology sector is something that continues to thrive within Central Ohio. For a perspective on how science impacts our region, let’s look at just one of the sciences, chemistry.

Chemistry is sometimes called “the central science” because it bridges other natural sciences like physics, geology and biology. In the Columbus Region and throughout Ohio, chemistry also plays a huge role in our economy. The American Chemistry Council’s infographic paints a compelling picture of chemistry’s role in creating jobs and economic development throughout the state.

One of the Columbus Region’s most respected companies, Chemical Abstracts Service, has evolved into the world’s authority for chemical information, providing the global scientific community with access to the most current chemical and related scientific information. Just a few miles away, Battelle is advancing the science of specialized analytical chemistry. These two organizations are surrounded by hundreds of others that use chemistry to manufacture plastics and other advanced materials to go into the things used in everyday goods and innovative products all over world.
