Columbus, Ohio – Covestro, a global leader in innovative polymer materials, has announced an expansion at its Hebron facility to better serve the growing needs of the automotive, healthcare, and electronics industries in North America. The company says the investment will be in excess of $100 million and include new advanced production lines to manufacture high-performance polycarbonate materials, creating 24 new jobs and retaining 145 current positions.
The expanded facility will produce specialized materials used in products like automotive parts, medical devices, and electronics. The investment strengthens Covestro’s ability to provide customized solutions to its North American customers while reinforcing Hebron as a critical component of the company’s operations.
“This investment, which follows our recent announcement of a $40 million investment in our R&D capabilities in Pittsburgh, underscores how critical our U.S. sites and the U.S. market are to Covestro’s global strategy,” says Samir Hifri, chairman and president of Covestro LLC. “The expanded capacity of our polycarbonate compounding capabilities in Ohio will both help us better supply our customers as well as represents a commitment to our employees, the Hebron, Ohio community, and the U.S. market as a whole.”
Construction on the new facility will begin in 2025, with operations expected to start by late 2026. The expansion is part of Covestro’s “produce in the region for the region” approach, focusing on supply chain reliability and responsiveness to customer needs.
“Covestro’s decision to invest further in their facility in Licking County highlights the strength of our workforce and the value our community brings to the company’s growth,” said Alexis Fitzsimmons, Executive Director of Grow Licking County. “This expansion reflects the trust Covestro has in our community and demonstrates the opportunities available in Licking County for advanced manufacturing and innovation.”
“Covestro’s growth in Hebron reinforces Ohio’s leadership in advanced materials manufacturing,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “This expansion of the German-headquartered company in the Columbus Region strengthens Ohio’s position as a hub for businesses seeking talent and a premier location to serve their customers in the North American market.”
A groundbreaking event for the new facility is expected to take place in late Spring 2025.
