“Music is powered by ideas. If you don’t have clarity of ideas, you’re just communicating sheer sound.“
-Yo-Yo Ma
Economic development is a symphony of business communication. Face-to-face communication, written correspondence, data visualization, and the interpretation of complex information for decision making are all part of the daily life of an economic developer. Whether we are reporting results to our stakeholders, acting as facilitator between the government and business officials or presenting to a prospect, we are expected to understand and be clear.
There is a world of advice out there about how to communicate better (like this short article from Inc. magazine). This note is just a reminder for us to slow down, think about our message and our audience, and to listen a bit more this week.
Good luck!
