“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
-John F. Kennedy
We commemorate Veterans Day this Wednesday, with pride for those that serve and in remembrance of those that have fallen in service to the United States, and the ideals it represents around the world. We celebrate the liberties their sacrifice has afforded us and commit to continue the great experiment started 244 years ago.It seems we have a lot to recover and repair as we struggle with a public health and economic crisis here in the United States and around the world. We have a lot to knit back together.
I was recently reminded of a story that the late Senator John McCain often told about one of his fellow prisoners of war, Mike Christian. It is worth the four minute listen, and it seems to tie together the message of Veterans Day and the service to and for each other that is required as we recover from this crisis.
This week and in the weeks to come, let us honor our veterans, and let’s start knitting an even better future!
