Columbus, OH – Pier 1 Imports (NYSE:PIR) will open an e-commerce fulfillment center in Grove City, Ohio, to complement its existing Columbus Region distribution center. This will be the company’s second e-commerce facility, with its sister operation located in Mansfield, Texas. The expansion is planned to bring more than 150 jobs to the Region over the next three years.
“The early success of our omnichannel strategy – ‘1 Pier 1’ – has led to a considerable acceleration of our e-commerce sales,” said Alex W. Smith, President and CEO of Pier 1 Imports, Inc., a Fort Worth, Texas- based company that operates home furnishing and decor retail stores across the U.S. and Canada. “The Columbus Region’s exceptional distribution and logistics capabilities and outstanding talent pool, as well as its optimal location for e-commerce business, were all factors that led us to expand our Grove City operations.”
To support the expansion, the company is upgrading 195,000 square feet of distribution space located at 5701 North Meadows Drive in Grove City.
Pier 1 Imports plans to create more than 150 new jobs, including warehouse associate and management positions, and will add to its current roster of more than 100 full-time associates currently employed in Grove City. Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in summer 2014.
“Pier 1 Imports has always been a valued partner in our community, and we’re thrilled to see their continued investment in Grove City,” said Ike Stage, mayor of Grove City. “We’re always pleased when an existing company experiences success, because that means we can look forward to a long-lasting relationship. Pier 1 Imports is a great example.”
