Irene Alvarez Named Director, Marketing and Communications, for Columbus 2020

COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus 2020, the 11-county regional economic development entity, today announced the hiring of Irene Alvarez as director of marketing and communications.

In her new role, Alvarez will be responsible for marketing activities supporting the Columbus Region’s overall business attraction and economic growth strategy. Alvarez will oversee Columbus 2020’s advertising, public relations, website and social media efforts.

“Irene brings extensive marketing and branding experience to Columbus 2020. She is uniquely positioned to tell our story, given her work with the Columbus Region in her previous position,” said Kenny McDonald, chief economic officer, Columbus 2020. “Irene is an incredibly talented marketer, and we are thrilled to have her join the team.”

Alvarez was most recently an account supervisor at Fahlgren Mortine, where she executed strategic marketing and communications plans on behalf of several clients, including Columbus 2020, the City of Columbus, 200Columbus, the Columbus Chamber, Experience Columbus, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and The Columbus Dispatch, among others. Alvarez previously was a marketing project manager at Experience Columbus.

Alvarez is on the boards of Available Light Theatre and Dine Originals Columbus. She lends her marketing expertise to those organizations and also volunteers with Camp Sunrise, Ohio’s only summer camp program developed specifically for children affected by HIV/AIDS. She owns a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.
