Columbus, OH – xperion, a Germany-based automotive components manufacturer, broke ground today on a new, 50,000-square-foot facility in the Columbus Region to house its first U.S. manufacturing and sales presence. The company’s more than $6.3 million total investment will include the addition of 59 jobs over the next three years.

“The Columbus Region is an ideal location for our new U.S. facility because of its strong reputation in the manufacturing sector, and also its proximity to key automotive customers,” said Roland Schillo, Avanco, the parent company of xperion. “We look forward to growing our operations and workforce in Licking County.”

A subsidiary of Avanco’s Energy & Environment (E&E) division, xperion’s Columbus Region facility will focus on the production of composite automotive tanks for the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector. The facility is located within the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center in Heath. Licking County- based Southgate Corporation is the builder.

“xperion’s decision to open a new U.S. facility in Heath speaks to the Region’s ability to attract global companies and provide the right mix of customer and workforce access,” said Dan Evers, director of economic development, GROW Licking County Community Improvement Corporation. “These committed jobs are a welcome addition to Licking County, and we hope to grow that number even more by facilitating xperion’s success.”

The company will add to Licking County’s strong manufacturing landscape, joining key employers including Anomatic Corporation, Owens Corning Corporation, and Kaiser Aluminum. xperion’s commitment of 59 jobs represents $2 million in new payroll, with positions primarily focused on production.

“The cutting-edge technology xperion brings with this project furthers Ohio’s position as a leading supplier of compressed natural gas vessels to the rapidly growing markets in North and South America,” said John Minor, president and chief investment officer, JobsOhio. “Landing xperion for Ohio was a collaborative effort with our regional partner Columbus 2020 along with partners at the local level.”
