Columbus, OH – Columbus 2020 today announced the appointment of Tom Shoupe and Mark Smolik to its board of directors. The two newest board members join 15 other private and public-sector leaders in helping to guide the Columbus 2020 Regional Growth Strategy.
Shoupe is executive vice president and chief operating officer at Honda of America Mfg., Inc. (HAM), where he also serves as a member of the company operations committee – a senior leadership team that establishes business strategies for the company’s operations, which include three plants in Ohio. He has served in numerous roles since joining Honda in 1988, including three years leading Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA) in Lincoln, Alabama, as the company’s president and chief executive officer responsible for all HMA operations.
As vice president, general counsel & secretary and chief compliance officer of Exel Inc., Mark Smolik formed and now leads the company’s economic development team. He is responsible for all aspects of the legal affairs for Exel in North America and sister company DHL Supply Chain in Latin America. Smolik also leads the company’s commercial contracts management team in addition to serving as board secretary and as a member of the company’s employee benefits committee. Additionally, he serves as general counsel to the company’s Williams Lea and TAG businesses in the Americas.
