Columbus, Ohio – The Columbus Region has been listed No. 8 on Site Selection magazine’s ‘Top 10 Metro Areas’ list, with 92 new and expanded facilities in 2019. The Region has made Site Selection’s ‘Top 10 Metros’ list for eight consecutive years. In years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, the Columbus Region ranked No. 7, No. 5, No. 8, No. 7 and No. 7 respectively.

Ohio’s 448 projects earned the state the No. 2 spot in Site Selection’s overall Governors Cup state ranking – second only to Texas. Ohio also took the No. 1 spot in the per capita ranking, with Kentucky and Nebraska taking the No. 2 and No. 3 spots respectively.

“We are proud to be on the Governor’s Cup list again this year, especially given the nation’s highly competitive economic development ecosystem and the quality of metropolitan regions in our category,” said Kenny McDonald, president and CEO of One Columbus. “Making the ‘Top 10’ list for eight consecutive years speaks volumes to the long-term, strategic approach we’ve executed over the past decade and the market-leading companies that continue to choose the Columbus Region.”

The Columbus Region earned its ranking among peer metropolitan areas with populations greater than 1 million. New facilities and expansions included in the analyses had to meet at least one of three criteria: involve a capital investment of at least U.S. $1 million, create at least 20 new jobs or add at least 20,000 square feet of new floor area. For example, Nexient, the nation’s leading provider of 100% U.S.-based Agile software development services, chose the Columbus Region in 2019 for its new product development center, creating 200 new tech jobs. Beam Dental, a next-generation provider of dental insurance for small and medium-sized businesses, also announced plans in 2019 to expand in the Region, creating 150 new jobs.

In addition to Columbus, other Ohio cities recognized include Cincinnati, Dayton-Kettering, Findlay, Lima, Toledo, Tiffin and Zanesville.
