“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.“ – Arthur Ashe
Some of you have invested years (if not decades) and thousands of hours into your community to make it better. Some of you are just getting started on that journey. Some of you are “in the forest” of a project or initiative right now and are frustrated with the pace of change.
Perhaps the short list provided below can provide some perspective and keep you striving toward your goals – and I invite you to add to it!
- You can’t do it alone. No single leader or organization does it without partners.
- Leaders can’t mail it in – you must be in the room to give and get context.
- Everyone says they are client focused – few really are.
- It takes t-i-m-e. Much more than you think it will or perhaps it should.
- Optimism is essential.
- Words matter.
- You can always make the podium larger.
- You can’t win if you are not invested.
- It’s not about you.
- Don’t assume anything.
- It won’t benefit everyone unless you make it so.
- If you never fall short, you’re not aiming high enough.
- Leadership makes the difference.
- It’s worth it.
