Columbus, Ohio — Cologix, a leading North American provider of data center and interconnection services, today announced its expansion in Orange Township and Johnstown. This initial phase of development represents more than $1.1 billion in investment and builds on more than a decade of Cologix’s presence in the Columbus Region, strengthening the digital infrastructure that supports business growth, innovation and competitiveness across the Region. The two new campuses will deliver 90 new direct jobs to Central Ohio, with hundreds of additional construction jobs through a multi-year buildout.
The workforce inside these buildings extends beyond Cologix’s direct team. Its colocation facilities serve as shared data centers where multiple businesses can house, connect and manage their technology without building facilities of their own. Cologix customers often station IT and engineering staff on site to manage and maintain equipment, adding skilled technical workers to the facilities each day.
Cologix operates four data centers in Central Ohio and today supports more than 200 customers across the Columbus Region, from local and regional businesses to national and global enterprises. The new campuses add capacity to that established foundation, connecting customers to one another and to markets around the world.
In practice, these campuses provide shared infrastructure for the regional digital economy. Instead of building and operating their own data centers, local companies can use Cologix’s secure, high-performance facilities to house and connect their technology, preserving capital for hiring, product development and serving customers. That same capacity supports the digital services that people across the Region rely on every day, from healthcare systems and financial services to education networks, cloud platforms and emerging technologies.
“This expansion reflects the continued demand we’re seeing from customers in Ohio who rely on secure, high-performance digital infrastructure,” said Dawn Smith, President of Cologix. “Columbus has always been a market where interconnection runs deep and these new campuses build on the ecosystem we’ve established here over the past decade. We’re scaling to support our Columbus Region customers while continuing to invest in the Ohio communities where we operate.”
Cologix’s facilities are designed for efficiency and sustainability, using closed-loop cooling systems that minimize water usage and energy performance standards that outperform industry benchmarks. The projects will strengthen the Columbus Region’s position as a growing hub for digital infrastructure and advanced technology investment, supporting the systems that power both daily life and economic growth.
“Digital infrastructure is essential to how communities grow and compete,” said Jonas Peterson, chief economic development officer of the Columbus Partnership and president of One Columbus. “Cologix’s expansions in Orange Township and Johnstown build on a decade of investment in this market and reinforce the Columbus Region as a place where companies scale with confidence.”
Local leaders emphasized the importance of the investment for the community.
“This investment represents long-term value for our community and the people who live and work here, while situating the facility appropriately in an industrial park that is designed for this kind of use,” said Delaware County Commissioner Jeff Benton. “In addition to creating jobs and supporting infrastructure, projects like this generate significant tax revenue that helps communities invest in the services, roads and public priorities that residents depend on. It positions Delaware County to grow alongside the next generation of technology-driven investment.”
“Digital infrastructure is as essential to a modern community as roads, utilities and public services,” said GROW Licking County executive director Cameron Garczyk. “Data centers help power the tools residents use every day, from healthcare and education to banking, communication and local business operations. This project supports job creation while building the capacity our community needs to grow in an increasingly connected economy.”
JobsOhio highlighted the collaborative effort to secure and grow the company’s presence in Ohio.
“Cologix’s decision to expand in Ohio reflects the state’s strength as a destination for the digital infrastructure that powers innovation, business growth, and economic competitiveness,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “This investment will create new opportunities for Ohioans, support the continued growth of our technology ecosystem, and further position Ohio as a leader in the digital economy. We are grateful for the collaboration of our regional and local partners who helped make this expansion possible.”
