Columbus, Ohio — The Columbus Region is home to 18 Fortune 1000 headquarters, including five Fortune 500 headquarters, according to the newly released rankings by Fortune Magazine, underscoring the strength of one of the Midwest’s leading corporate communities.

The latest rankings reflect a regional economy anchored by companies across health care, financial services, energy, technology, retail, advanced manufacturing and construction. Together, the Region’s 18 Fortune 1000 headquarters have more than 36,000 full-time employees based in the Columbus metro.

“Home to 18 Fortune 1000 headquarters, Columbus is one of the leading hubs for global corporate headquarters in the U.S. and among the very largest concentration of such headquarters among metros of similar-sized population,” said Jason Hall, CEO of the Columbus Partnership.  ”These companies, many of which are homegrown, are pillars in our community and a unique source of civic pride. The continued success of these firms underscores that the Columbus metro has the deep pool of talent, quality of life and other factors to support the unique needs of companies competing globally at this scale.”

The Columbus Region’s Fortune 1000 headquarters help distinguish it as a major business center. Their presence strengthens the market’s ability to attract talent and capital, support supplier networks, create professional opportunities and connect companies of all sizes to customers, partners and expertise.

This year’s rankings showed strength among the Region’s Fortune 500 headquarters. Cardinal Health held its position at No. 15, while Nationwide, American Electric Power, Huntington Bancshares and Vertiv Holdings all moved up from last year’s list. Vertiv posted the largest gain among the group, rising 57 spots to No. 414, reflecting the company’s continued growth in digital infrastructure and data-center demand.

The Region’s headquarters strength is closely tied to its broader civic and economic momentum. Corporate headquarters provide leadership capacity for major priorities, including business attraction and expansion, workforce, infrastructure, downtown development, higher education and entrepreneurship.

For emerging businesses, that headquarters base can be especially valuable. Large companies can serve as customers, mentors, partners and investors, helping create the conditions for more companies to be built, scaled and rooted in Columbus.

The latest Fortune rankings build on a period of sustained momentum for the Columbus Region, including significant population growth, major technology and infrastructure investment, as well as recognition by Brookings Institution as an AI Star Hub.
