Business and civic leaders joined golf legend Jack Nicklaus this week to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 50 years of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. WBNS-TV’s Dom Tiberi interviewed the Columbus-area legend about his vision for building an institution that would elevate not only the game of golf, but the entire region.

What started in 1976 has grown into one of the PGA Tour’s most prestigious tournaments and a defining tradition in Dublin, Ohio. The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday draws thousands of families, fans, leaders and celebrities from around the world to celebrate excellence and the Central Ohio community.

During the conversation, Tiberi highlighted how the Tournament’s impact extends beyond golf,  raising tens of millions of dollars for Nationwide Children’s Hospital and other charities.

“I was taught that whatever deal I made, I wanted to give more than I took. I still try to live that way,” Nicklaus said. “If you give more than you’re taking, you’re going to be alright.”

This philosophy—rooted in partnership, community investment and a commitment to excellence—has shaped Dublin and greater Columbus for decades. Nicklaus reflected on Dublin’s transformation from a small town into a dynamic city, a partnership that has benefited both Muirfield Village and the city itself.

The 50th Memorial Tournament, taking place this week, has drawn an exceptional field of international competitors and reinforced Nicklaus’s message: The Columbus Region is a destination for world-class golf, business opportunity, and professionals and families seeking a community that values partnership and success.

As the metro continues to grow, the Memorial Tournament remains a symbol of what’s possible when leaders commit to building something that benefits the community.
