"最も興味のあることを、最も無規律で、不遜で、独創的な方法で一生懸命勉強する。"- リチャード・ファインマン
Earlier this year, Bill Gates wrote that the development of Artificial Intelligence will change the world more and faster than his personal computing revolution. The innovations we’re already seeing while AI is just in its infancy should remind us that even if we have decades of experience in our field of work, we simply cannot keep up with the pace of technological change. It should also excite us to explore new ways of learning and unlocking some of the most complex problems in our respective fields. This is certainly true in economic development. Developing our economy and transitioning our industries, workforce, and communities requires bold action. It also requires incredible humility. The treasure trove of academic information about economic development and the knowledge of experienced practitioners is nothing to look past, but it is insufficient to tackle the tasks ahead. As we tackle this week, let us all have a beginner’s mindset. Our world is changing whether we like it or not, so we have an obligation to question old practices, imagine new ways of doing our work, and setting our goals. Let’s have a great week, lift each other up, and move forward.
