A doctor-governed company creating value for members and opportunities for eye doctors
In 1955, a group of optometrists had a vision to provide affordable, accessible, high-quality eye care to the world. They formed the first prepaid, not-for-profit vision benefits company, known today as VSP Vision Care. The company evolved into VSP Global, which includes five complementary businesses that combine eye care insurance, high-quality eyewear, optical lens manufacturing and lens enhancements, ophthalmic technology, and connected experiences to strengthen the relationship between patients and their eye doctors.
Drawn to the strong reputation and growing logistics potential of the Columbus region, VSP opened its Eastern Operations Center (EOC) in 2003, along with VSPOne Columbus Optical Technology Center, a high-tech optical manufacturing lab. Today, there are more than 500 VSP employees in Columbus supporting the company’s 84 million members and 40,000 participating network doctors.
Columbus is also the latest outpost for VSP’s innovation lab, The Shop. The Shop focuses on enhancing the provider and consumer experience while leveraging ongoing industry and academic partnerships, such as with The Ohio State University.
