Creating strong communities by developing quality, affordable homes on a cornerstone of dignity, security and opportunity
Homeport is the largest, locally-focused nonprofit developer of affordable housing in Central Ohio. Serving the area since 1987, Homeport owns 2,400 affordable rental apartments and homes in 36 communities in Columbus and surrounding suburbs. Homeport is laser-focused on its core client, its residents, connecting them if necessary to food, emergency financial assistance, education, after-school and summer programming, health and wellness assessments, and much more.
The organization was founded when prominent real estate developers, philanthropic families, and government officials initiated a campaign to raise funds necessary to bring low-cost, high quality housing to the community. Builders and leading proponents Irving Schottenstein, Don Kelley, Robert Weiler, and Max Holzer were joined by The Columbus Foundation, the City of Columbus, Columbus Realtors, the faith community, and business leaders.
