April 25, 2012

COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus 2020, the 11-county regional economic development entity, today announced the hiring of Victor Thorne as managing director, strategic development.

In his new role, Thorne’s mission will be to grow the Columbus Region’s reputation as a preferred and optimal location for the world’s most promising entrepreneurs to launch and turn their innovative ventures into profitable and sustainable world-class enterprises.

“Victor brings a background of both investment and operating management experience to Columbus 2020, spanning Fortune 500 corporations to entrepreneurial ventures,” said Kenny McDonald, chief economic officer, Columbus 2020. “He will be a tremendous addition to our organization.”

Thorne began his career at Morgan Stanley and has consulted for Lucent Technologies’ Supply Chain Networks and Coffou Partners, a retainer-based executive search firm. He most recently was a director at TechColumbus and the Ohio TechAngel Funds, the largest angel investment network in North America.

He also is co-founder of Broadline Capital, a global investment management firm which received the industry award for Asia Venture Deal of the Year, named by Private Equity International (PEI) in 2008. Thorne also co-founded the leading provider of supply chain management and intelligence solutions to the trillion-dollar food system. Creating the industry’s first SaaS electronic supply network, the company became an innovator in the automation of core business processes. It was sold to Accel-KKR and Abry Partners in 2007.

Thorne completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, earned his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and participated in Harvard Business School’s Executive Program on Supply Chain Management. He serves as a member of the boards of directors of five technology companies in Central Ohio, the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Academy, and the Executive Board of the Chicago-based non-profit Jobs for Youth.
