Intel in Ohio

Securing Our Nation's Future

Intel’s investment in the Columbus Region is the largest manufacturing investment in Ohio history. The project will create thousands of jobs and result in an economic impact that touches all corners of the state.

In addition to bringing in an industry that is new to the Midwest, Intel’s investment places our state and region at the forefront of solving a national challenge.

Intel is the largest U.S.-based chip manufacturer. Boosting U.S. production of chips is critical to national security, and to addressing the chip shortage touching all elements of the global economy.

Intel’s investment and associated jobs will change the lives of Ohioans, create new educational and career pathways, and attract new talent to Ohio from around the world.

Our advantage

Intel selected the Columbus Region and Ohio due to its high concentration of engineers, collaboration with colleges across the State of Ohio, a site and infrastructure that will allow for multiple phases, and financial support from JobsOhio, the State of Ohio and the City of New Albany.

Additionally, Ohio has a geographically powerful location. Within just a one-day drive of 60 percent of the population of the U.S. and Canada, Ohio is a perfect strategic location to bolster the supply chain.

Creating a solution to a national problem

While reliance on semiconductors continues to increase, production has decreased. Ohio is proud to be Intel’s partner in rectifying that problem.

This investment will help alleviate the chip shortage and bolster national security with new domestic production capacity for the defense industry. For the Columbus Region, it will serve as a magnet for the retention and attraction of top talent and catalyze new educational opportunities across the state to deliver new pipelines of talent.

Intel’s commitment

Intel is committed to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and sustainability. The new site will be designed and constructed with green building principles, and the new factories have a goal to be powered by 100% renewable electricity, achieve net positive water use, and achieve zero total waste to landfill in support of Intel’s 2030 sustainability goals.
