Transforming lives through higher education since 1830
Founded in 1830, Capital University is Columbus’ oldest university, and our mission is more relevant than ever. We’re a mid-sized, private undergraduate and graduate school that exists to transform lives through higher education.
Personal, urban and experiential, Capital blends the liberal arts and professional education with delivery and teaching practices that balance tradition and innovation. Nearly 700 employees support Capital’s 3,500 students as they shape their futures by earning degrees in the arts and sciences, communication, electronic media and film, business, nursing, education, humanities, mathematics and computer science, law and more.
Capital’s community roots run deep. We spent our earliest years on North High Street and Goodale Avenue before settling on 54 acres just east of Alum Creek. Today, our campuses join two thriving communities — downtown Columbus, home to Capital Law School, and Bexley, where our main residential campus remains. Helping to fuel the Region’s economy, we prepare students for meaningful lives and careers, create partnerships, foster civic engagement, and help cultivate a talented, creative workforce.
More than 19,000 proud Capital alumni live and work in the Columbus Region, forming a strong network of critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and inclusive, principled leaders. We call it the Cap Family, and we invite you to join us.
