Dozens of vocational and technical schools, colleges and universities, grants and workforce development programs are available in the Columbus Region.

JobsOhio Workforce Grants

The JobsOhio Workforce Grant was created to promote economic development, business expansion, and job creation by providing funding for the improvement of worker skills and abilities in the State of Ohio. Click here to download a PDF that describes the workforce development program.

Columbus Workforce Development Agencies and Programs

Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC)
Partners with Franklin County Job and Family Services, the State of Ohio Job and Family Services, and the City of Columbus to provide assistance to all job seekers including, but not limited to, those moving from public assistance and those who have been dislocated from their current position. 

Halcyon IT Veterans Workforce Development Program
Halcyon IT, an IT solutions provider in Dublin, Ohio, has a training program for military veterans to help them quickly learn the basic skills of software development and software quality assurance through classroom training, reference materials and hands-on workshops and lab exercises.

Ohio Career Exploration Internship Program 
The Ohio Career Exploration Internship Program is designed to help Ohio high school students explore potential careers and gain valuable work experience in a professional environment. Through an internship of at least 20 weeks and 200 hours of training, students have the opportunity to explore all aspects of a profession and gain better understanding of the training needed to enter a career field.

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Veterans Program
The Veterans Program Office develops policies and implements programs to increase opportunities for veterans to obtain employment and participate in job training programs. 

Roads2Work is a 6-month training program to help job seekers obtain full time employment in the trucking/transportation industry. The program is open to participants from Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Madison, Pickaway and Union counties and offers CDL classroom training and on-the-job training. 

Volunteers of America - Greater Ohio
Offers job-readiness and training programs to help veterans find and maintain stable employment.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)
A federal tax credit available to employers who hire and retain veterans and individuals from other target groups with significant barriers to employment. Employers claim about $1 billion in tax credits each year under the WOTC program. There is no limit on the number of individuals an employer can hire to qualify to claim the tax credit, and there are a few simple steps to follow to apply for WOTC.
